a reminder to not give up. keep pushing.
these 3D side walk chalk art are so awesome. They say they are only 3D from a certain angle, I hope one day I will witness one.
This is part of a group of prints inspired by Edgar Allen Poe's stories. They are very haunting and eerie images. The other images can be viewed here.

If Prince William is 100% Royal, and Kate Middleton is 0% Royal, does that make their son the half blood Prince?
I got up way too early this morning and this is how I feel.

Presentations are due today! Yay inspiring quotes, the rest of them can be found here

Victoria

Im using outer space as my theme. Hoping to do a really intense galaxy like these examples above.
For my monopoly theme I decided to do a rainforest/jungle theme. The board will resemble a jungle and the pieces to move will be characters from the jungle (for example, giraffe, hippo, lion, tiger, etc). I figure this relates to ages 5-8. I know I loved jungle animals when I was young! I've been playing around with creating the characters, but I still have a ways to go!

tim's monopoly idea

I chose the images because I want my theme to be medieval for my Monopoly Junior Board. I think that among both boys and girls the idea of knights, princesses, and dragons are appealing. I am also thinking about changing the names of places on the board such as railroad crossings and the Jail could be a dungeon. Also instead of the normal hotel I would a castle as a real estate piece. I think that I can really build on this idea and make it into a fun looking game.

For my board game I want to do a fairytale/ castle theme. I chose this because in my research of the target audience I found that there is a bit of an obsession with fantastical things (vampires wizards zombies fairys etc). I thought to do a castle theme because I think that it can appeal to both boys and girls, and feel that it can probably relate to some of their time's literature. The pieces and game design will be a lot less young than the monopoly junior amusement park game. In doing research I read that children better respond to things when they are either advertised by older children or look older. Kids 5-8 are looking for role models and don't necessarily want to be treated as "kids" anymore. For my player pieces I would like to do a princess, a jester, a dragon, and a knight. Their property pieces will all directly correspond to the players, i.e. a crown, a jester hat, a dragon tail, and a sword or shield. I want the game squares to stay around the outside of the game, however I will change them to look like old gray bricks and wood planks to reflect the castle and drawbridge.

For my board game I am going to do an "Under the Sea" theme. I want the middle of the board to have a marine life scene with different fish, coral, and other sea animals. The different pieces are going to be scuba divers, and as they move along the board they will collect different animals to put in their tanks (property pieces). You can collect animals by moving around the board and landing on different ones. I think I also want to include squares where you lose an animal or something along those lines to keep interest in the game. I want to use bright colors throughout the whole game. I also might include some marine life facts somewhere on the board to help educate kids about the different kinds of animals that live in the ocean. I think it will benefit kids ages 5-8 because they can have fun playing the game, while learning about different animals and their underwater environment.

The theme I chose for Monopoly Junior is Bake Shop/
Bake sale. I wanted to do something that targeted just one gender so I chose girls and what girl doesn't like cupcakes and pretty cakes. I want to do the game in the style of being in the bake shop and getting penalties/ paying when the flower spills or the cake burns. I think this can be a great game for a little girl. I also want to do it in very girly colors like pinks and purple to appeal to just that group. Now that there are easy bake ovens and cupcake makers in stores it's easy to say that little girls like to bake so why now make a game that's directly related to that.

For my final project I decided to do a theme of animals around the world. I did some research and most of what came of for interests of kids ages 5-8 were anything to do with animals. So I put that idea with traveling around the world, teaching kids where certain animals they see in zoos are native too. I chose to do animals from Asia, Australia, Africa, and Antarctica.

My theme is going to be at an ice cream shop. I work at an ice cream shop, and I always loved when my mom would take us to get ice cream when I was a kid. I always see how excited kids are when they get ice cream, so I figured this would be perfect. For the main design of the board I am thinking of doing the inside of the shop, and then an outside area with customers. I like the idea of creating furniture out of ice cream. I am going to be using bright fun colors. Instead of the railroad I'm going to use an ice cream truck. I think I want one of my pay $2 spots to be to go to ice cream land. In cloudy with a chance of meatballs Flint creates this whole ice cream land, so I think that would be awesome, and I like the idea of the ice cream cone being the base for the slide. I think I want the four players to be a sugar cone, wafer cone, waffle cone, and a cup, but I'm not set on that yet. Another idea I had instead of go to lunch, I want to do something like...you dropped your cone, go sit in time out, ha! That's what I have so far.

Olivia Monopoly Junior

After much thought, I decided to base my monopoly junior board off of 'Outer Space'. The subject is gender friendly and is age appropriate. It is also educational while offering children a fun game to play. The game pieces will be a ufo, a space ship, an alien, and an astronaut. Instead of 'GO' it will say Blast Off! Instead of Jail there will be a black hole. Free parking will remain the same, just with a spaceship instead of a car. The 4 railroads instead will be 4 major space centers. Houstin, Kennedy and two others I have written down somewhere else. The places will be named after the 8 (9) planets, the moon, the sun, the milky way, some famous spaceships names...not the challenger..and some major comets. The money will have an alien replacing the monopoly man. The inside of the boxes will have the Monopoly Junior logo and the background will be dark with bright gases and planets and stars, mostly resembling the first photo merged with the second.
