Victoria-inspiration

I chose this Water Cube building in Beijing as my inspiration for the week because it's something I've never seen before. It's the luminous shape and style that really attracts my eye and makes me want to go inside. It's cool that there is a pool inside of it, where big meet's occur. It's the most unique and creative stadium that I have ever seen. The outside and the inside mimic eachother in the ceiling texture making the whole building unified. It's sleek design is modern and almost futuristic in it's presentation.

I learned about these artists in the class that I TA for today and thought they they were all very interesting. The first artist is Cai Guo-Qiang, the second Wassily Kandinsky, and the third Chuck Close. I chose these because they all incorporate different things that I hope to use in my work, being motion, line, color, and shape. All of these artists are successful in their work because of their knowledge of these basic elements.

I've been doing research on unique clocks for my poster project for more ideas instead of drawing clocks that seem traditional. I came across these three as the most interesting in my research because none of them look like they should be clocks. The shape that clocks are made from have nothing to do with the clock itself.

Jordan- Hats

I was searching for some new ideas for what to do with hats and I found theses images. I like the first one because it is not just one hat. The spacing of all the has together creates a pattern and fades away to see the image that is actually make the pattern. I think that I might try to make a composition similar to that for the first project. The second is a hat I found it is a steampunk hat. I like it because it is very different from any of the hats I have done so far. I think I might try to create one for the project.

Negative space is something that I am looking to use in my project. I am wokring with black/white/grey scale for my project a

The above images are inspiring to me because I am now thinking of patterns to use in my 100 thumbnails project. Creating 100 different elephants is very challenging, so I want to play around with the idea of adding a pattern to the interior of the elephant shape. I am hoping this concept will help me come up with some more ideas to use.

These 3 images I found while looking for inspiration for a typography project. I really love how the first image has text and other designs inside the face. I also like the negative/positive relationship. The second image is also dealing with negative/positive space. I absolutely love the cropped image of the zebra and how the letters fit perfectly in it. In the third image im really attracted to the way the letters fit together to form a tree. It makes me want to know if the letters spell something significant or are they just random letters?

The top two images are so simple yet brilliant at the same time! I love that this reminds you that you dont need fancy type or a million things going on to create a good logo. Sometimes simple is best. I found these using stumbleupon and more of the 50 simple logos can be found here.

The bottom images is part of a really cool set of images I found using stumbleupon. The series of images are inspiring because they make you see something that's really not there. It is a new perspective on average settings.

Jackie_artist using paper

I thought this was awesome. This is made only out of pieces of paper. When I first looked at it I thought it was either paint or feathers, but the artist has only used paper for this whole composition. I think it's a great work of art and it creates a really cool splatter illusion. This must have taken forever.

http://theberry.com/2011/07/20/whats-my-favorite-color-all-of-em-37-photos/

The first image I found on stumbleupon and it is one of many ways those colors are combined as shown in the link provided below the image. I thought that was a very cool and clever idea. The second image I also found on stumbleupon. It really caught my eye. I really like the way the artist played with positive and negative space and the saturated colors that are used really pop with the black background. The third image I thought kind of related to the project we are working on and it gave me some ideas for my own work.

I chose these images because I thought the first image was inventive and in many cases very true. In today's business world many larger companies are like fish in the food chain. I liked the second image because light painting is something that has begun to interest me in my photography as well as long exposure photography which is shown in the third photograph.

I chose to share these three images this week. I chose the octopus because I am so out of ideas that I began google-imaging random objects and animals for inspiration, and there is now an octopus in one of my thumbnails. I chose to share the other two images because now that we are starting our compositions on the computer, color is an important thing to consider. It is important to look at color schemes or even really colorful images such as the ones I have chose to share to get inspiration for how to color our own pieces.

Anna_furniture

I thought this was a really cool website with furniture designs just like this one that take ordinary furniture and turn it into a work of art that has movement and interest yet is functional. This image stuck out to me because it's a set of drawers you can put in your closet and hang it up and have it be completely out of the way. The other pieces of furniture on the website are also conversation pieces. They are non conventional yet functional.

Victoria- Inspiration week of 8/18

I chose this as my inspirational design for this week because of it's complexity. This design is so bright and colorful that it draws your eyes in, but then as you look more you see all the exquisite detail in the tail of the phenix. I love the movement quality in this piece, between the shape of the bird's body, the curvilinear aspects of the tail and the clouds and sun behind it, you never stop moving your eyes around the entire piece. This sort ofdesign inspires me to try and create something so intricate in my water designs because water is all about movement as well.

Jackie_unique designs

I really loved this picture when I found it. This designer went beyond the norm of the coca-cola label and created a can that is 100% recyclable. I love the simple silver color, it makes the can very unique, and it stands out more than the original label would. The red background also gives a great contrast to the cans and makes a perfect composition.

I really enjoyed this design too. This is an awesome modern twist on a simple case of beer. I love the roundness to it, as opposed to the normal square box. I couldn't find the information on it, but maybe this would be the new eco friendly case of beer. I like that it's curvilinear, it gives a new feel to it.

I thought that these shopping bags were very creative and different. It shows how something so simple can make an object so interesting. It's such a great idea to make it look like someone is jumping rope when you lift the bag. It's a simple concept, yet really sets the bag apart from anything I've ever seen.

Karen_Inspiration for 100 Thumbnails

These three images have to do with my thumbnails. I like the first image because the elephant is sitting down. In basically all of the thumbnails I have done so far in my sketchbook, the elephants have been standing. This image gives me ideas on how to change the position of my object. The second image has a lot of different elephants. The four that really caught my eye are the ones that are made out of simple black shapes. These images hold my interest because you can still tell they are supposed to represent an elephant. The last image is also helpful to my project because it shows a patter with elephants in it. I want to try to create some thumbnails using this idea.

I think this picture is extremely interesting with it's use of lines and direction. Also the photographer's use of the clear ball to create focus in the photo is also thoughtful and something new.

I chose this product because the idea of a bike camper intrigued me and is very inventive. I also think the the look of it is visually appealing with a kind of 80's feel.

I chose this product because I thought the design of this item was witty and well thought out. It's also not complex to create and the items to make it are easy to aquire.

These 3 images I found really inspirational. The first image has to do with Project 1 that I'm working on. While I was in the process of researching I found the first image and thought it was a unique idea that maybe I could incorporate in my project. The second image I chose because it is very visually interesting and the bright colors really attract the eye. I also like the use of vector graphics. The third image has a very interesting composition and makes the viewer really think about what the message is that the artist is trying to relay.

I am looking at how the egyptians worshiped their cats and also how they were portrayed in their art work. They were not only the most popular pet in the house, but their status rose to that of the sacred animals and then on to the most esteemed deities like no other creature before them. There is a cat known as the African wild cat (Felis silvestris libyca)-one of the closest wild relatives of the modern cat.  It is larger than the average domesticated cat of today.  The feline's tawny, yellow-gray fur, long tapering tail and striped markings, affording it ideal camouflage among the rocks and sand of the desert.  This cat is known as a predator-a hunter of small game-rather than a scavenger.  The other cat native to Egypt is the swamp or jungle cat-(Felis chaus), but it is the wild cat which is believed to have been the cat to "domesticate the Egyptians.

katie_fusco

My word is feline and what comes to mind when i think about that word is an assortment of different cats and how to portray them. I like tribal markings like the second picture shows i think it has a lot of movement in it. I always wanted to think of cat through out time and just like in the egyptian culture, see hoe they were worshiped and what that cat looked like.
